My name is Idal Waves (rhymes with "tidal waves".)

I'm a writer with a passion for filth, controversy, and the preservation of both.

Writing is a way for me to try on a new life and a new experience that I couldn't experience otherwise. It's why I like exploring fetishes I don't have, desires I don't have, and lifestyles I'll never lead. I want to write about human desire in every way possible, to show violence and kindness in equal measure and to give each the attention they deserve. My work runs the gamut from gentle, romantic relationships all the way up to disgusting nightmare fuel. At the end of the day, both could be the result of seeking out what you know could hurt or even kill you. Isn't that the most frightening thing of all? Not knowing what you'll get if you accept those dark longings?

I'm highly influenced by pulp fiction and men's magazines from the 1950s - 1970s. I appreciate their focus on personal taste and the way they value shock and disgust without applying a moral value to choosing to interact (or not interact) with any of it. I aspire to channel this energy and vintage storytelling style in my own work, allowing it to be shaped by my own lowbrow tastes and moral standards. The pulps of the past were written with an eye towards a white, cis, predominantly straight male audience. Now it's my turn to be pandered to and I will happily do so.

I mainly write fictional short stories with original characters. You'll find my primary series by visiting the Writing section. You can also subscribe to my Archive Of Our Own (AO3) account to receive updates every time I release new work.

My work has changed a lot over time and as you look through my back catalogue, you will see a wide variety of styles. I encourage you to read only what you like, engage as much or as little with my work as you see fit. My work is always finished twice: once when I am done editing, and once when someone reads it.

I have been phasing out social media, but you can follow me at Tumblr @idalwaves. You can also check out my blog over on Dreamwidth for my personal thoughts.
